I'm a mentally ill person raising another mentally ill person. With chickens.

About me I guess

eyes closed

I hate doing little introductory things. When my sister calls my phone says “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries”, which I find hilarious and she does not. That kind of sums up our relationship, but we do get along very well.
I’m kind of an Anglophile (except for Gordon Ramsey, he’s super annoying) but I’ve never been anywhere in Britain or Europe. That’s a bucket list item.
I’m afraid of spiders and large insects.  I’m also afraid of things that can eat you. That includes vampires, zombies (I REALLY hate zombies), sharks, bears and alligators. Oddly big cats don’t bother me and neither do snakes.
I’m a mentally ill person raising another mentally ill person, which keeps life interesting. I have a typical child as well and a husband who puts up with us all by being an online gamer.
I’m rather over-educated, with a Masters in Counseling that I’ve never used except in my internship. I actually would enjoy the work of being a counselor, and I think I would be good at it, but I would be awful at turning in paperwork, so I would never get paid. Also, I live in a small community and it’s very hard to get hired as a mental health counselor when you have been a mental health client. I’m not sure it should be that way, but that’s how it is.
Our family includes three dogs, five chickens, a rabbit and two hermit crabs. So it doesn’t just feel like a zoo, it kind of is. I’m much better at looking after them than I am at taking care of the house. I think the Martha Stewart gene missed me completely.
I’m a pretty big liberal about some things. I think that health care is a right, not a privilege, and should be universal. I don’t think that corporations are people. I think that lobbying should be illegal, or at least very strongly regulated.  I’m pro-choice, but not because I think abortion is a good thing; I think if we educated people about sex properly and made birth control easily accessible it really shouldn’t be all that necessary, but I don’t think it’s an option we can take away either.
I’m middle-aged I suppose, and I’m getting crankier and less tolerant as I get older. I don’t know why. I just don’t have much patience anymore.  I can’t even watch a whole movie these days.  I suppose that means I’m not aging gracefully?

  1. This was fun! Random things about you instead of “I’m from here, married … do this…”
Rather focused on who you are instead of were.

  2. You must have a twin. I have a neighbor lady (much older) who is in the same situation. She has a younger sister who is mentally ill. Recently my neighbor contracted Parkinson’s. Its just sad to see them. She is suffering from memory loss, but she still takes care of her younger sister. My neighbor never got married because she wanted to care for her sister.
